Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Mill Technical Lead to serve as the primary liaison between management and the milling department. This role provides technical leadership, advanced troubleshooting support, project execution, and continuous improvement across machining operations.
As the department’s technical captain, you will guide operators and setup personnel, diagnose complex machining issues, drive process improvements, and ensure production goals, quality standards, and safety expectations are consistently met. The ideal candidate combines strong machining expertise with leadership, communication, and mentoring abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical lead and point of contact for milling operations
- Provide high-level troubleshooting, diagnostics, and process guidance
- Identify, analyze, and resolve production, tooling, and quality issues
- Report performance metrics, technical challenges, and improvement opportunities to management
- Lead execution of process improvements, equipment upgrades, and special projects
- Escalate critical issues and recommend corrective actions
- Train, mentor, and support Mill Operators and Setup Operators
- Promote standardized work procedures and best practices
- Drive alignment, accountability, and team performance within the department
- Support production scheduling and operational efficiency
Qualifications & Skills
- Extensive experience in CNC milling operations and machining processes
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical documentation
- Experience with tooling strategies, materials, and process optimization
- Leadership experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment
- Strong communication and team development skills
- Ability to manage multiple technical priorities and projects
- High attention to quality, safety, and operational standards
Preferred (Nice to Have)
- Background in aerospace or high-precision manufacturing
- Basic CNC programming or process engineering experience
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience
- Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives
